ACP Statement on the FIDE Congress Agenda
Dear delegates of the 77th FIDE Congress,
Dear ACP members,
Dear chess friends,
The ACP Board would like to draw your attention to some paragraphs of the FIDE Congress Agenda where the ACP name is mentioned.
I.
1. Candidates Matches
The ACP proposes to abolish the Candidates Matches if they create a serious threat to the stability of the whole World Chess Championship Cycle.
Based on the experience of the current cycle, the FIDE Presidential Board should examine the current regulations of the World Championship in co-operation with ACP and the top players.
It should be clarified that all ACP proposals concern the next WCC cycles only.
At the end of February 2006, the ACP Board worked out and offered to FIDE the “Regulations for the 2006-2008 and 2008-2010 World Chess Championship Cycles - project” which has for the past 3 months been a subject of regular discussions between the ACP and FIDE representatives. A detailed report on the current ACP-FIDE negotiations will be submitted to the ACP General Assembly which will be held on May 26th in Turin.
The deadline for submission of bids for the Candidates Matches 2006 expired on 24th March and the ACP regrets that FIDE has not yet released any official statement on this subject as most participants are ACP members.
II.
2. Time Control
The FIDE Presidential Board accepted the proposal of ACP for a single time control for all major FIDE events: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
The ACP original proposal was the 7-hours time-control, further to the results of the poll held in 2004. FIDE was not inclined to come back to the classical control, and the control 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game came up as a sort of compromise.
III.
1. ACP
(Association of the Professional Chess Players) is applying for membership as an affiliated organisation.
The name of our organization is in fact: ACP – Association of Chess Professionals.
The idea of affiliation to FIDE arose during the last ACP-FIDE meeting on March 25th 2006. Having seriously studied this subject, the ACP Board took the decision to abstain from affiliation to FIDE. An official notification has been sent to FIDE.
